But any bookstore can order the paperback version of the novel. If the store does not have it in stock, ask the seller to locate it by title and author name (“The Best of Crimes,” by K.C. Maher) in the database. Because it’s a debut, you may need to explain that K.C. are initials. The author is not “Casey,” “Kasey” or other variation.

Then, why how and where to buy? Because if you go to an independent bookstore, you will help both the store and me. Doing so, may take longer and it does involve your time. But I appreciate the extra effort. The more independent bookstores that order my novel, the better my chances for getting the sequel, “Not the Worst of Crimes,” published. I’m currently rewriting it to match “The Best of Crimes.”

Both began as twin novellas that developed into psychological dramas through many rewrites. For those who want to know more about Amanda, she narrates the sequel as an adult. The focus of the story involves a much longer span of time, various places and ten significant characters, including children, two of whom are starting high school by the end.
